Muddy Creek Trout Unlimited   Chapter # 575
York County, Pennsylvania

Muddy Creek Trout Unlimited in cooperation with the York County Conservation District performed a clean up of the North Branch following the flood May 8th 2004. This storm event brought nearly ten inches of rain to the Felton area, The rising water took two lives and neared the level during Hurricane Agnes in 1972.  The resuling debris-line from upstream properties and businesses was and is an eyesore and in some cases an environmental danger.

The York County Conservation District was contacted after the event to assess streambank erosion, resulting gravel bars on flood plains, and damage done by fully uprooted trees and debris. Nearly all the bridges from Ffelton to the Muddy Creek Forks were closed due to damages received from the flood waters. Gary Peacock from the YCCD contacted MCTU with the idea of a clean up. We were excited as a TU chapter to have the support of the YCCD to spearhead such an effort. Afterall, we had significant damage to our Nursery and Handicapped fishing area to address, not to mention other areas downstream in the Muddy Creek Watershed.

Gary and the YCCD organized the logistics and advertising and provided volunteer labor to execute the clean up. MCTU also supplied volunteer labor through it's membership. The task took 7 full days filled 3 roll-off containers with debris and involved over 30 volunteers. We would like to thank all those business who supported the clean up and the volunteer labor who executed the task.
